Taiwan Day 6: Shui Mei Woodcarving Street

After departing from the Fairy Lake Leisure Farm, we had lunch.

Three Treasures Dish. From left: white bitter gourd, radish and cabbage braised in a tasty sauce

We then walked towards the Shui Mei Wood Carving Street in Sanyi. Known as Taiwan’s “Kingdom of Woodcarving,” there are about 300 wood carving shops. Taiwanese wood sculptors come here to display and sell their craft.

The town is peaceful, almost serene. Wood carving shops flank both sides of the road

Handcraft wood owls. They are so adorable looking like little eggs

Intricately painted cats

The wood owls are handcrafted and hanpainted. There is a small hole at the back of its head where blowing into it produces a very lifelike "woot woot" owl sound

I love this kingfisher so much I bought one. It is made of pine and sits on an unprocessed piece of camphor wood.
