Yunnan Day 1: Kunming

Kunming is the capital and largest city of  Yunnan province in Southwest China. It is not a very popular tourist destination itself, but as flights land here, Kunming is the common starting point for travellers who are exploring the rest of Yunnan.

We arrive in Kunming from Singapore via Silkair on a 3.5 hour flight.

We visit an old street. This old street will be gone soon to make way for a "new" Old Street.

Plenty of berries on sale along the streets

Juicy & sweet mulberries

Yunnan is the home of Puerh Tea, a black tea fermented underground for several years and pressed into cakes

China produces half of the world's mushrooms, and Yunnan is the main mushroom producer in China and known as the "Kingdom of Mushrooms" and famed for its wild mushroom hot pot. Take a taxi to the main mushroom hotpot district on Guan Shang Street (关上路) and pick a place at random to enjoy your mushroom feast.

Enjoying the berries we bought earlier in the day

We stayed at Kunming Jinjiang Hotel at about 330 Yuan (USD 50) per night for a 2 bedder. Its a business hotel so it's clean and comfortable.
